From 2014 – 2018, the only two Lamborghini models in production were the Hurácan and Aventador. Until the addition of the Urus SUV in 2018, these two cars were the sole heirs to the Lamborghini dynasty. Today, they still remain the only supercars in production by the manufacturer. Due to their shared heritage in sports car excellence, the vehicles’ stylings are similar and can be difficult to tell apart by the untrained eye – specifically the Hurácan’s Performante edition. Here’s how you can impress your friends and identify a Lamborghini Performante or Aventador when you go car spotting.
Developed in the same era, these models are thrilling exotic cars with a similar look. However, there are differences in the body styling that can help identify the vehicle when you know what to look for, even at a quick glance.
First, check the size of the side intake. A Lamborghini Aventador sports a much larger side intake than the Performante. Also, the nose on the Performate is flat and smooth, as compared to the sculpted peak on the hood of the Aventador.
Perhaps the easiest way to tell the difference between the two vehicles is by looking at the back, which has several points of variation. Most obviously, the tailpipes on the Aventador are located in the center of the vehicle’s rear, while the Performante has tailpipes separated on either side of the car. When the car’s jetting down the road at a quick speed, this might be your best bet to identify the car. You can also notice that the back window on the Aventador features louvers or horizontal slats that resemble blinds, while the Performante has no louvers.
Under The Hood
If you’re lucky enough to take a look under the hood, the Aventador is manufactured with a V12 engine while the Lamborghini Performante sports a V10. Both are naturally aspirated engines, rather than a turbo or supercharged engines with forced induction. This type of engine is a common trait of Lamborghini models currently in production.
The real engineering feat is the Aventador’s V12 that outputs 740 horsepower, hits 0-100km/h in 2.9 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 217 mph (350 km/h). While the Aventador’s engine packs more power, the Performante still boasts an impressive 201 mph (325 km/h) max speed, 640 horsepower, and also goes 0-100km/h in 2.9 seconds.
Due to the added power, complex design, and luxurious styling, you’ll find the Aventador comes at a higher price tag than the Performante. But both vehicles are still lucrative additions to your garage collection and thrilling to drive.
